Alan Fitzpatrick has decades of experience with the Albigen System. He started as a member of the early 1970s Pyramid Zen Society group at Kent State University, and has written extensively on the teachings of Richard Rose.
In-page links, this page:
Alan has a unique perspective, having lived with Mr. Rose at his house in Benwood (close to Wheeling) for many years. During that period Alan put his degree in Psychology to good use via employment in the psychology department at the nearby West Virginia State Penitentiary in Moundsville.
Access to the harrowing psychological lives of the criminals imprisoned there, along with being able to discuss his experiences with Mr. Rose on a daily basis, gave Alan a window to an aspect of Rose’s teachings rarely visible in his writings and public talks. Those familiar with the works of Theophrastus Paracelsus [1] will recognize immediately what this teaching involved, and why it was mentioned only in passing in public forums.

This is to say, that along with his spiritual and psychological teachings that reached to the heavens, even beyond, Mr. Rose had a deeply zoological appreciation of the human condition, as well as the etheric and demonic forces that compel human actions, from daily mind-numbing routines and habits, even up to committing atrocious crimes and sexual acts.
The Sex Connection
Alan’s understanding resulted in his authorship of The Sex Connection: A Study of Desire, Seduction and Compulsion; the Psycho-Sexual Teachings of Richard Rose. [2]

This book is not for the faint of heart, but is indispensable for anyone who wishes to understand Richard Rose’s teaching in particular, and the hidden forces that govern the life of man in general. Anecdotally, exposure to this material has caused many an Albigen System student to clean up his life and turn to sobriety and moral continence.
Cover notes and the table of contents are as follows:
“Revealing, intriguing, provocative … what you don’t know about sex will shock you. We are victims of a mental process called reverie; not the proud possessors and doers of sex. This book is a study of the phenomenon of sexual reverie and its tremendous impact on the mind. It suggests that sex is predominantly a mental experience more than a physical one. There is a definite connection—the sex connection—between what a person does sexually and their mental troubles. Behind every bizarre state of mind is a bizarre sex act.

Retreat from Untruth: The Teachings of Richard Rose, American Zen Master
Cover notes:
“The most comprehensive and concise study of Richard Rose’s Zen teachings ever compiled. The author, Alan Fitzpatrick, has compiled his book from Rose’s own published works, dozens of lectures, personal papers, informal study-group sessions, and interviews with former students who knew Rose and worked with him.
“This book includes rare biographical information detailing Rose’s early years, his time spent in the Capuchin monastery, his eight years of intense search, his enlightenment experience, and the people Rose met along the way, after his experience, who were instrumental in helping him assimilate his experience and formulate his system of teaching.”

Alan has written an article, featured here on Albigen.Net, Richard Rose and the Assimilation of his Enlightenment Experience, that explores Richard Rose’s nearly 3 decades of coming to terms with the experience of Enlightenment that occurred to him at age 30.
“… When this occurred, I looked about for words to describe the strange trauma I endured and the even stranger realization which followed the trauma.”
